GNSI Chapters and Groups*

Guild members are a friendly bunch, so you will always be welcome to attend events they sponsor, which can include general meetings, workshops, field trips, presentations and exhibits. You do not need to be a member of a chapter or a group to attend most events, though membership may be required to participate in such events as exhibits. Select a chapter or group in your area to find out more!

A chapter is a group that has gone through the affiliation process which consists of:

  1. Voting in a Constitution and By-Laws.
  2. Electing officers — at least a President and Secretary/Treasurer.
  3. Sending in the proposed Constitution and By-Laws with a letter of request to become affiliated to the GNSI Board.
  4. Generally have at least 5 members and meet at least 3 times a year.

There are 3 main differences between chapters and groups.

  1. Affiliated chapters are eligible to apply for funding of educational events through the Educational Fund. Groups are not eligible.
  2. Affiliated chapters are eligible for reimbursement of the core conference fees for their chapter representative, who in turn will give a brief report of their chapter's activities and concerns during the Annual General Business Meeting. Groups are not eligible for this reimbursement (although we are happy to have their reports during the Business Meeting if they have a representative present.)
  3. Affiliated chapters are covered under the general umbrella of liability coverage provided by the Guild. Groups are not. Unfortunately, our insurance also cannot offer this coverage to any international chapters.
